Her talents were first noted in early childhood by a paternal grandmother and great aunt. My grandmother was known as a well-to-do higher society small town Midwestern mystic(... as I was to later learn). My great aunt was a sweet maiden lady (never to wed) and a shy nurse who loved and watched over me to distraction (which I adored). As a tiny little girl... and, to this very day, I remember sensing unease between these two women who lived on opposite sides of the township. In this charming vintage Victorian village, my grandparents were the local undertakers. Their large three story home was also their mortuary. My grandfather worked with the newly arrived bodies, preparing them for barial. My grandmother did hair and makeup prior to the viewing and funeral. Caskets were stored in a cavernous cool darkroom on the first floor where we used to 'body' sit! (We would be asked to 'sit' with the body in it's pre-viewing period.) Once, we had an incident where the body actually sat up in the casket. Absolutely an amazing experience for three little grandchildren! Grandma was a respected church-going woman. Known for her magical ways and a powerful caster of 'spells' ~ I always got the feeling my great aunt was afraid of her sister-in-law.
